Post Baby Diet - What I Ate This Week

It's been over three months now since I gave birth to my little princess Summer and I'm in that awkward stage where it's not acceptable to wear maternity clothes anymore but my pre-pregnancy clothes are a bit too small so unfortunately it's time to start the diet (Boooo!)

I hate being 'on a diet' eating salads bores me to tears and I just end up craving junk food until I end up giving in and having a massive binge so this time I decided to try something different. I love watching cooking programmes and one of my favourites is The Hairy Bikers, a little while ago they did a series called The Hairy Dieters and they brought out an accompanying book filled with 'real food' that were tweaked so that there are fewer calories.

I love the idea of being able to eat all the foods that I normally eat but still be on a diet so I decided to buy the book and give it a go. To make some of the meals even more low fat we replaced beef mince with turkey mince and to be honest you couldn't even tell the difference, here's some of the meals I ate this week.

Chilli Salad Bowls - 397 calories per portion

Yummy chilli in tortilla bowls with salad, this is my favourite meal that we've cooked from the book so far it's absolutely delicious and you definitely don't feel like your on a diet eating this.

Roasted Cod with Parma Ham & Peppers - 224 calories per portion

Cod wrapped in parma ham with Parmesan breadcrumbs served with roasted peppers and courgettes, I love white fish as it's not too fishy (if that makes sense) so this meal was another winner for me, we had this with cous cous aswell just to make sure we were nice and full but you could easily just have it on it's own.

Skinny Beef Lasagne - 354 calories per portion

The clever way to save calories in this recipe is the fact that they replace the pasta sheets with opened out leek leaves and it's so tasty you really don't miss the pasta. We replaced the beef mince with turkey mince to save even more calories.

Cottage Pie - 322 calories per portion

The trick with this recipe is the bulk out the mash with leeks so there's less potato and also use creme fraiche instead of milk and butter. You still feel like you're having a good hearty meal but without all the calories, that's my kind of diet.

For lunch I've been eating sliced up carrots, cucumber and wholemeal pitta bread with hummus, it's not something I could eat everyday but it's nice to have a couple of times a week.

I've also been eating cereal for lunch which is easy for me as I LOVE it, Shreddies have been my cereal of choice just lately, they're 208 calories for a 40g bowl.

Snack wise I've been loving these Soreen Banana and Soreen Original Lunchbox Loaves, they're less than 100 calories each and super yummy!

In my first week dieting I've lost 8lbs which I'm over the moon with but I don't think it's all down to eating healthier as I was also on my period so some of the weight at the start of the week was down to water retention but nevertheless I'm really pleased!

Let me know if you have any diet tips for me and also if you liked this 'What I Ate This Week' post, if you did I may make it more of a regular thing.

DIY - Make Your Own Baby Birth Stats Wall Art!

I originally posted this on my beauty blog Beauty by Emma a few weeks ago but I thought it would be perfect to pop on this blog too!

I'm always on the lookout for cute ideas for my kids bedrooms and the home in general, I recently saw a lovely personalised piece of wall art with your baby's birth stats on it and thought it would be perfect for Summer's bedroom.

However when I noticed the price was £28 without a frame and when you add in the frame it was £68 I just couldn't justify paying that amount.

So I decided I'd take on a little DIY project and have a go at making one myself and I'm really pleased with how it came out!

All I did was use PicMonkey to add different texts in different colours and fonts to a white background and printed it out. I chose to design mine a little different to the one I'd seen but you can design it anyway you want.

I got the frame from Ikea and the whole thing cost me the grand total of £4!

I think it looks lovely in Summer's bedroom and goes perfectly with her room decor, I'm going to make another one for Riley's bedroom and I'm also making one for my nephew as part of his birthday present.

What do you think? Will you be giving this a try for your children's bedroom? Let me know!

I'm A Cuddledry Super Blogger!

I'm so excited as I've been chosen to join the Cuddledry Super Bloggers!

If you're not familiar with Cuddledry then here's a bit about them.

The company was founded by two friends who came up with the perfect solution to getting your slippery, wet newborn safely out of the bath. The Cuddledry baby towel attaches to you like an apron leaving both hands free to lift your baby out of the bath and then you just cuddle them dry.

Cuddledry now stock a wide range of bath time items and my favourites have to be the Dress up Towels, in particular the Amazing Cuddleroar.

Riley would love this!

As a Cuddledry Super Blogger I'll be keeping you up to date every month with all the Cuddledry news and offers.

Bug In A Rug Baby Blanket Giveaway! - Closed

I currently have a fab giveaway running over at Beauty by Emma to win a Bug in a Rug Baby Blanket in the size/colour of your choice, here's my review and how you can enter.

Today I'm reviewing a fab product by Baby Rug called the Bug In A Rug and I'm also really excited to be giving one away!

The Bug in a Rug is basically a blanket with legs in making it perfect for car seats, buggys and sling carriers.

Made from super soft fleece it provides a snug, swaddle for your baby which helps promote sleep.
It's easier to use than a bulky jacket or footmuff on a small infant.
The Velcro ties allow you to regulate baby's temperature.
It is easily stored in a handbag and is perfect for days out.
And it's machine washable which is ideal as babies are prone to being sick or dribbling a lot

The Bug in a Rug comes in 3 different sizes Small (0-3 months) Medium (3-6 months) and Large (6-12 months) and comes in a range of different colours.

I think these are a brilliant idea for winter when you're putting your baby in the car seat or if your putting them in a baby carrier as it would keep them really snuggly and warm.

They also do a Sun Protection Wrap if you want to keep your baby protected from the sun, it provides a UPF 30+ rating of protection.

The Fleece Bug in a Rug costs £21.99 and is available to buy from the Baby Rug Website but they have been kind enough to allow me to give one away to one of my lucky readers!

If you win you can choose the size and colour that you would like and to enter just fill in the Rafflecoptor form below, the giveaway will run for 3 weeks until the 13th July and is open to UK and Ireland residents only.

Introduction To Me & My Blog!

For my first post on Handbags To Change Bags I wanted to introduce myself and let you know a bit about how this blog came about and what to expect on here.

I've been blogging for a little over a year now at Beauty by Emma which started out life as purely a beauty blog but has slowly evolved in to a mish mash of beauty, mummy and lifestyle posts as time has gone on and I found that what was happening was that my readers who like the beauty part of my blog were being a bit put off by the mummy part of it and vice versa so I thought the best thing to do was to separate the two and revert Beauty by Emma back to a beauty blog and create a whole new parenting and lifestyle blog Handbags To Change Bags!

The blog name is referring to how much my life has changed in the last 3 years where I've gone from being all about fashion and clothes and handbags to shoving all of my belongings in to a change bag with the kids stuff.

Handbags To Change Bags will feature posts about life with my wonderful children (the good and the bad), I'll review some products and hopefully host some fab giveaways.

So if any of this sounds good to you and you'd like to follow my blog then here's how you can do it.
