Asda Baby Event Buys

Our local Asda has got a Baby Event on at the moment and I picked up a couple of bargains yesterday that I thought I'd share with you.

I got this super cute, super snuggly winter sleeping bag in 6 months plus for Summer, she uses 1 tog sleeping bags now but I needed some winter ones and at £8 I thought it was a real bargain as they can be really expensive. They also had blue ones with stars on for boys.

I also got this gorgeous luxury, knitted blanket for the bargain price of £6! It's really thick and soft, perfect for using when she's in her pushchair in winter. Again they had this in blue with stars for the boys.

I'd definitely recommend popping in to your local Asda to check out the bargains while the Baby Event is still on.

Let me know if you buy anything!

Dry, Rough Hands? Here's How To Make Them Silky Soft

As a mum I seem to spend half of my life washing my hands, washing bottles or cleaning everything in sight with bleach in an attempt to keep the house germ free which means everything is nice and clean but my poor hands are dry, sore and look like the hands of an old lady.

After deciding something had to be done about my poor hands I came up with a routine that seems to be working really well at keeping my hands soft and silky, here's what I do.

When I wash my hands I always use Dettol with E45 hand wash as the Dettol kills 99.9% of bacteria and the E45 protects your hands natural moisture levels leaving them feeling super clean and super soft.

You can buy Dettol with E45 from Boots and most supermarkets.

When I'm washing Summer's bottles I always use rubber gloves and my favourites at the moment are these really girly Bizzy Bee Elegance Gloves, they're pink and have really cute heart details on the palms. It makes a massive difference to your hands and nails to wear gloves when washing bottles or doing cleaning in general so I wear the slightly more sturdy Bizzy Bee Patterned Gloves for general cleaning jobs inside or outside, I love the pink polka dot design.

If your hands need an extra boost of moisture you can even get these Bizzy Bee Moisturising Gloves, they're multi-purpose gloves with built in moisturiser, amazing!

You can buy Bizzy Bee gloves from Asda or from the Bizzy Bee website.

My last tip for super soft hands is to always use a good hand cream every time your hands get wet, my current favourite is the Joules Hard Working Hands hand cream, it smells amazing and leaves my hands so silky and smooth, I love it!

So there you have it my top tips for baby soft hands, I hope this post was helpful!

Let me know if you have any tips for me!

Matalan Haul

Matalan had got 20% off over the weekend so I thought I'd take advantage of the discount and get a few more Autumn/Winter bits for Riley.

Here's what I got

Riley needed some long sleeve t-shirts and I love the colours and designs of this 2 pack, I'm obsessed with mustaches on Riley's clothes at the moment lol

Hoodies are always so useful to have so I got Riley this Navy Hoodie.

And this burgundy one, I love the quilting on the shoulders and I think the colours are perfect for Autumn/Winter.

Lastly I got him a pair of Burgundy Jogging Bottoms as they're always handy for when he's going to the soft play centre or for just hanging about the house in.

I also couldn't resist getting these super cute owl print socks, they were only £1 so I thought I'd treat myself lol

I'm actually really proud of myself for not buying Summer anything, I think 2 wardrobes full of clothes is quite enough for a 5 month old :)

Do you like shopping at Matalan? I love it, they have such nice kids clothes.

Ok I Think I've Got A Problem - Another Tesco Baby Clothes Haul

So I went to Tesco yesterday and this happened.......

I've got a problem, I just can't stop myself from buying Summer clothes everytime I go in there!

Oh well she needed them (that's what I keep telling myself lol)

Here's what I got

Now that summertime is almost over and autumn is on it's way I thought Summer needed some long sleeve tops and when I saw this adorable 3 piece outfit I just had to have it! It's a top, shorts and tights set and I love the glasses design on the top, Summer is going to look so cute in it.

Sticking with the 'Geek' theme I got this lovely little long sleeved t-shirt.

And these star print leggings to wear with it.

Summer has just grown out of her 0-3 sleepsuits so she needed some new ones and I love the cute bunting print on these and she does love her Daddy lots.

These gorgeous sleepsuits were in the sale and as I love anything nautical they had to be purchased lol

Lastly I got these pretty pastel coloured hair clips to clip on to Summer's What's In Lilly's Closet headbands that she pretty much wears everyday.

So there we go, I think it's pretty safe to say that I've got a Tesco baby clothes addiction lol if you'd like to look at my previous hauls then click here and here.

My Top Potty Training Tips

I've recently potty trained my son Riley and I have to admit it was the one thing I've been dreading since he was born but it wasn't anywhere near as bad as I thought it would be and after 2 weeks we've pretty much cracked it so I thought I'd share my top potty training tips with you today.

Tip 1 - Make sure they're really ready

One of the biggest mistakes I think people make is trying to potty train their children before they're actually ready, of course every child is different so there is no set age that they should be ready to potty train but there are some signs to look out for in your child to let you now that it's time to ditch those nappies. Is your child over the age of 18 months? Can they sit still for 2-5 mins? Is their nappy regularly dry after a nap? Can they pull trousers/pants up and down? Can they follow simple instructions like "go and fetch me a ball"? If the answer to most or all of those questions is yes then they may be ready to start. I chose to wait until Riley was almost 3 years old before starting potty training, partly because I was dreading it and kept putting it off and partly because I knew that the more ready he was the quicker he would crack it.

Tip 2 - Preparation

One thing that never occurred to me before potty training was that Riley may not actually know what poo was, because he always did it in a nappy and I quickly disposed of it without him ever really seeing what he had done he didn't have a clue what it was so a way of teaching him about it is to get some books about pooing and potty training (I know it sounds gross but it helps lol). Riley particularly liked Pirate Pete's Potty and Zoo Poo but there are loads of different books on this subject to chose from.

Tip 3 - Give them options

We got Riley a potty and a little soft toilet seat (we got ours from Pound Stretcher for about £2.99) and we let him choose which one he wanted to use, he sat on the potty once and said he didn't like it because it was uncomfortable so he tried the toilet seat and loved it and he's never looked back. If we had only had the potty I think trying to get him to sit on there and do anything would have been extremely difficult, I'm actually really pleased he didn't like the potty as it means we've skipped the whole transition from potty to toilet phase.

Tip 4 - Make it less messy

The best time of the year to try potty training is during Summer as your child isn't wearing lots of layers of clothing and they can just run around in their pants outside keeping the inevitable accidents away from your sofas and carpets. Another great way to keep mess to a minimum is to use Dry Like Me pads which you pop in to your childs pants and they catch any accidents whilst still giving them the feeling of being wet, these were a god send for us during the first few days of Riley's potty training and they're great for using when you're out and about to make sure they don't make too much mess if they have an accident in a shop or cafe.

Tip 5 - Persevere

When it comes to potty training you really have to just stick with it, when we started with Riley we decided to skip using pull ups and just go straight for pants and day one was a nightmare! He must have wet himself 20 times, he just didn't seem to understand what we wanted him to do at all and I was pulling my hair out, all I wanted to do was put him back in nappies and give up but I rang my Mum and she said that the worst thing I could do was to start going backwards and forwards from nappies to pants, now we had got rid of nappies we had got to persevere, so we stuck it out and the next day he only had 5 accidents and the day after he dropped down to 1 accident a day, I was amazed at how quickly things had gone from a nightmare to him totally getting it. Of course some days he's better than others depending on what he's doing but all in all I think he's got the hang of it, he wears a pull up at night as we're going to tackle night time dryness at a later date but I'm so glad we've done it now.

I really hope these tips are useful and if you have any questions about potty training please feel free to ask me, I'm happy to help :)

Riley's 3rd Birthday Party

Yesterday was my son Riley's 3rd birthday party and the theme was Tom & Jerry which seems a bit old school these days but he watches it all the time on tv and he loves it!

I can't actually believe he's 3 years old already, it's absolutely flown by and my gorgeous little boy is not a baby anymore. He's potty trained and starts nursery in September and all I can say is it's a good job I've got Summer otherwise I may have a little meltdown lol.

Anyway back to his birthday and his party, we decided to buy him a Leap Pad 2 as he's always trying to play on my husbands Ipad and I think we made a good choice because he loves it although some of the games are a little advanced for him. My Mum got him a play house and my Auntie got him the Imaginext Batcave plus he got tons of other stuff from everyone else, he's a very lucky boy.

The party was lots of fun and the cake was amazing! Here's some photos from Riley's special day.

Summer's 20 Week Update

My little baby girl is 20 weeks old already, I can't believe how fast it's gone! You're already flying through the milestones like there's no tomorrow, you were smiling at 2 weeks, sleeping through the night at 8 weeks, you started picking things up and holding them at 15 weeks and last weeks big milestone was you rolling over for the first time. There's no stopping you and it's something I'm not used to as your big brother was a very lazy baby and took his time doing anything physical, I get the feeling you're a different kettle of fish.

Sleeping

You sleep really well at night, I usually give you your last bottle at 11pm and you then sleep until around 8.30am, you sometimes have a short nap in the morning and a longer nap just after lunch but just lately you've not been napping well at all, I'm not sure if it's the hot, muggy weather or a growth spurt but something is upsetting you at the moment.

You mostly like to sleep in your pram during the day but if I can't get you to sleep in there the other place you love to sleep is on your change mat lol strange child.

Feeding

You're taking 6oz of formula now and you were doing really well with feeding until the hot weather came along and now you don't seem interested in your bottles at all which is not good considering the health visitor is STILL monitoring your weight gain, for those of you that haven't read my previous posts Summer was 8lbs 9oz when she was born and then lost quite a lot of weight due to struggling with breast feeding and since then has struggled to gain the appropriate amount of weight that health visitors deem 'normal'.

I'm hoping you start feeding better again soon and I'm starting to think about when to wean you as you're very interested in food and putting everything in your mouth. In the last couple of weeks you've started to grab your bottle and put it in your mouth yourself which is really cute.

What you've been up to

You're on the move bigtime! You never stop moving, wriggling and kicking which means that everytime I put you down you end up in a different position when I go back to you, this morning I put you on your playmat and turned my back for two minutes, when I turned back around you were off the playmat and looking very pleased with yourself lol

You love to chill out with your bezzie mate Zack, he's your second cousin and he's 5 weeks younger than you. You see him every other week at your Great Auntie Netty's house and we always have to have a photo shoot on the change mat.

You spent a little bit of time in your Bumbo this week but not too much as you're still a bit wobbly in it.

And you went in the Jumperoo for the first time, you loved it!

And the last thing I've got to tell you this month is that you've got a very bad habit which scares me to death, you're always pulling blankets, muslins, bibs or any material you can find over your face, I have to clear an entire area around you when I put you down because if there is anything nearby that you could possibly smother yourself with you'll get your hands on it. I know I'll never be able to put a blanket on you in your cot because I'd never sleep for worrying so it's sleeping bags all the way from now on as it's just not worth the risk.

I've not been very good at keeping up with my update posts for Summer so far but i'm going to try and make it a monthly post so if you like reading it make sure you pop back for next months update.
