Our Favourite Weaning Products

As Summer is now six months old we started weaning her a few weeks ago and there have been some products that we've been loving, so I thought I'd put them in a favourites post for you.

One of the first foods that we tried Summer with were these Ella's Kitchen Fruit Pouches, they're 100% organic fruit with nothing else added which I love and can be used from 4 months. Summer loves these especially the banana one, she eats them on their own or mixed with her porridge and because they're in a pouch they're really easy to carry around in your change bag.

Our next favourite is something that we've been using with the Ella's Kitchen Fruit Pouches and that is these brilliant Click Lock Food Pouch Spoon Tips by Munchkin, I think these are a brilliant idea and work so well, they're perfect for when you're out and about as you don't need to take a bowl with you, you just twist them on to you pouch and squeeze the required amount on to the spoon and feed your baby and when you're finished you can lock it so that no food squeezes out in your bag and pop the cap over the spoon to keep it clean. These are a must for us when we go out and I have recommended them to all our friends with babies.

The next weaning product we've been loving is also by Munchkin and it's the Stay-Put Suction Bowls, we use these whenever we're feeding Summer at home and they're great for popping on her high chair tray as they really do stay put. When I put them on her high chair tray I tend to pop finger food in them so that she can help herself without throwing the entire bowl on the floor. I really like the bright colours of the bowls and the fact that they come with lids is really useful for storing food in the fridge.

This next item has actually been more useful to Riley but I thought I'd include it in this post as it's definitely a favourite and it's the Doidy Cup. Riley has been really struggling to learn how to drink properly from a cup without spilling it all over himself and the Doidy Cup has really helped, the unique slant of the cup enables Riley to drink easily and also see the contents of the cup without tipping it so much that it spills. It comes in a range of cute colours and I love the pink glitter one that I have for Summer, she'll definitely be using this when she gets a bit older.

The spoons that we've been loving are all by Tommee Tippee, Summer loves the First Weaning Spoons as they're made from super soft silicone which she loves to bite, I love the Heat Sensing Spoons as they let me know when Summer's food is too hot by going from red to yellow and we both love the Aeroplane Spoons because they make feeding time so much fun and Summer loves it if I make aeroplane noises and pretend the food is flying in to her mouth.

Finally on our favourites list is the Baby Cup, this little cup is perfectly proportioned for small hands and encourages toddlers to drink from a cup at a young age. You get 4 Baby Cups in a pack and they are non toxic, BPA free, phthalates free and dishwasher and steam steriliser safe. They can also be used to cup feed newborns and premature babies and have measurement markings in ml's on the outside. I've been putting a little drop of cooled boiled water in the cup and giving it to Summer and she's getting quite good at putting the cup to her mouth and drinking it so fingers crossed I won't be having the same problems with Summer drinking from cups as I've had with Riley.

So there you have it, all our favourite weaning products so far. If you're weaning your baby at the moment or you're going to be weaning them soon keep your eyes peeled on my blog over the next week as I have a fab weaning giveaway coming soon!

Some of these products were sent to me for review but all thoughts and opinions are 100% honest and my own.

How Well Did You Sleep Last Night?

As a mum of two, one being a six month old sleep has been a little thin on the ground lately but Summer is just getting in to a nice routine and then the school run starts so now we have to get up really early so that we're ready on time to take Riley to school which means I'm super tired by the time about 9pm comes along however some nights I get in to bed and no matter how tired I am I just can't switch off and go to sleep, there's always a blog post or something I need to remember for work swimming around in my head.

Silentnight did some research and found that 75% of people are not getting a good nights sleep, Silentnight Bed's East Midlands have been kind enough to send me a Crabtree & Evelyn Summer Hill Home Spray to see if it helps me to sleep better at night.

I've been trying it out for the past week and I love the scent, all I've been doing is spraying it around our bedroom every night when we go up to bed, I noticed the scent lasts really well and I could still smell it in the morning, I definitely think the spray made me feel more relaxed after I'd used it and I have been sleeping really well lately but then that could be to do with the fact that I'm exhausted after doing the school run, I'll definitely continue to use it at night though.

If you struggle to sleep well then here are some tips for a better nights sleep
  • Relax your mind, try using a room or pillow spray that contains lavender to help with relaxation.
  • Try to exercise regularly, just 30 minutes a day can make a big difference with how well you sleep but don't exercise too late at night as it could keep you awake.
  • Create a calm bedroom environment, keep your bedroom free of clutter and try not to have tv's and games consoles in there as they can over stimulate the brain at bedtime making it hard to fall asleep.
  • Avoid alcohol and caffeine before bed, alcohol is a diuretic which will have you needing the toilet all night and caffeine is a stimulant, try drinking something like Horlicks or Ovaltine made with warm milk.
  • Try and go to bed at the same time every night, this helps your body get in to a routine and encourages you to feel tired at the right time.
Do you sleep well at night? Let me know

Updating Riley's Bedroom

We've been thinking about getting Riley a new 'big boys' bed and at the same time re-decorating his room so I've been thinking about which sort of bed would be best for him, you can find a great selection of childrens beds and furniture online from TJ Hughes so I had a look on the website and picked a few of my favourites.

I love the look of the Arizona Sleep Station with it's cute desk and lots of storage and I think Riley would like that he has to climb up a little ladder to get in to bed.

I love this Domino Bunk Bed as it would be really handy for when friends or his cousins want to sleep over.

Or there's the Kids Blue Racing Car Bed which Riley would think was "awesome" (that's his favourite word) and would be lots of fun to sleep/play in.

I'm still undecided what to go for but if you're looking for a new bed then I recommend you visit TJ Hughes online for cheap furniture, beds and homewear and you could grab yourself a bargain.

What I got In My September Nonabox

Nonabox is a monthly subscription box for pregnant women or new mothers of children up to 2 years of age, each month you get a selection of products tailored to your childs age and sex which I think is fab as it wouldn't be as good if it were just generic unisex items, I received my first Nonabox a few days ago and I was really impressed with the contents, here's what I got.

  1. Gumigem teething bracelet which you wear like jewellery and then have on hand if your baby is teething and they need something to bite on, a fab idea and something I'll be wearing whenever I go out with Summer.
  2. Neuner's Nursing Tea which helps to increase your milk supply and relax and unwind mother and baby, I'm not breastfeeding Summer so this product is no use to me but I think it's a good addition to the box if you are breastfeeding.
  3. MAM Anti-colic bottle, I've never used MAM bottles before but bottles are always useful to have and even better with it being anti-colic.
  4. Water Wipes, these wipes are 99.9% purified water and 0.1% fruit extract so they can be used on your baby from birth, I've used these wipes in the past and loved them so I was really pleased to see them in the box.
  5. Ella's Kitchen Fruit Pouch, I'm weaning Summer at the moment and I'm using the Ella's Kitchen fruit pouches so this was a handy addition to the box as I'll definitely be using it.
  6. MAM First Toothbrush, Summer hasn't got any teeth yet but I'm pleased with this as I now have a toothbrush ready for when her first tooth pokes through.
  7. Bibetta Neoprene Bib, Summer is a very messy eater and we get through loads of bibs in a day so I was really happy to see a bib in the box, it's designed to prevent dribble sodden clothes which is perfect for Summer and I can't wait to use it.
  8. Crawlers sleepsuit, I was thrilled to see this in my Nonabox as I'd actually been contemplating buying one for when Summer starts to crawl as we have laminate floors which can be slippy and the Crawlers have anti-slip safety grips down the legs, toes and under foot making them perfect to help her crawl without slipping and hurting herself.
  9. Cloud B Sheep, this adorable addition to the box is so lovely, it's an aroma pillow which doubles as a plush toy and has a lovely lavender scent which helps to calm babies and soothe them to sleep, I love this sheep, it's super soft and smells gorgeous, fab addition to the box.
Overall I was massively impressed with the products that I received in my September Nonabox, there's nothing that I didn't like and only one product that I can't use which is the nursing tea. For £25 I think you get your moneys worth and then some and I'll definitely be recommending it to all my friends, it also makes a fab gift.

I was sent the Nonabox to review but all thoughts and opinions are 100% honest and my own.

Riley's New Favourite Toy

One of Riley's favourite things to do is draw but he has an annoying habit of doing a tiny scribble on a piece of paper and then wants a new piece to draw on which means we get through paper like there's no tomorrow in our house but we recently discovered a new product which is going to save us a fortune in paper, the Appen.

The Appen is a pen with pressure sensitivity designed to be used with iPads and tablets, it plugs in to your devices headphone jack and works without batteries. The harder your child presses down on the Appen the thicker the line it draws, it's designed especially to be used by young children and is incredibly durable.

To use it you just plug it in to your iPad or tablet and download the free App from the App Store or Google Play. You then create your account based on your childs age either below 5 or above 5, I like this feature as it means you can tailor the games to your childs abilities.

Your child can then use colours, pencils, crayons and the animated stickers to create pictures. They can learn to write letters and to count and one of Riley's favourite games to play is the Scratch game where you have to scratch to reveal a picture and guess what it is before the time runs out.

Riley loves playing with the Appen and it works perfectly with our iPad, it's very sturdy as Riley is quite heavy handed with it and it's definitely going to be something that he can play with for a long time as the games are designed for children of all ages. The only thing Riley struggled with a bit was learning how to hold it for it to work properly but as soon as he got the hang of it he was well away and he plays on it all the time. So now he can draw to his hearts content and when he wants a fresh page to draw on he's got one with the tap of the screen.

The Appen is £14.99 and you can buy it from Argos, Smyths Toys and Amazon.

We were sent the Appen for purpose of review but all thoughts and opinions are 100% honest and my own.

Mini Dunelm Mill & Tesco Haul

I picked up a few new bits a couple of days ago and I thought I'd show you what I got.

I'll start with Dunelm Mill

I love the Creature Comfort Mug as the colours are very Autumnal and I have a thing for owls and foxes at the moment and after seeing the super cute Owl Shaped Mug that Alex from Bump to Baby bought the other day I had to have it. The mugs were £2.99 each and I thought they were perfect to have my Nescafe Gingerbread Lattes in which I'm obsessed with at the moment.

I got the Gingerbread Lattes from Tesco and of course while I was in there I had to have a look at the baby clothes and surprise surprise I ended up buying some bits for Summer, here's what I got.

I'm absolutely in love with the Suede effect boots, they're so cute and look gorgeous on.

I really liked the colours of this 3 pack of long sleeved tops, particularly the mint green polka dot one.

I love this little pinafore dress set, it's perfect for Autumn worn with tights.

Lastly I got this adorable cord dress which I thought would look super cute with cream tights and the suede effect boots.

Let me know what you think about what I bought.

How To Make Swimming Fun For Your Children

I think it's really important for children to learn to swim and feel confident in the water from an early age, Riley is a bit hit and miss with water, sometimes he loves it and other times he won't go any where near it so I had to come up with ways to make it more fun and also to ensure that we don't have the same problems with Summer.

Here are my top tips for making swimming fun.

No.1 - Bath Time

The best way to start your children off with a positive attitude towards water is to have lots of fun splashing in the bath while they're still babies. Get in the bath with your baby and whilst holding them allow them to float with their ears submerged to get them used to the water, if they don't like it sit them back up and try again another time. Bath toys are a great idea and can then be taken in to the pool to make the transition much smoother. Riley had a Zoggy Soaker which are foam balls shaped like different characters like fish and crabs etc. This was perfect for playing with in the bath and also for taking to the pool.

No.2 - The Pool

Make sure the pool you choose is nice and warm and try to go during off peak times to make the whole experience less stressful for you and your little one. Don't stay in the pool too long at first as your child is likely to get cold and probably quite tired, gradually build up the length of time you're actually in the pool for. To help your child stay a bit warmer and to feel safer in the pool you can get them to wear a floatsuit, Zoggs do some great childrens float suits that are quick and easy to adjust whilst on and have sewn in, heavy duty air bladders to keep them afloat in the water.

No.3 - Make Up Fun Games

As your child gets older and more confident in the water you can come up with fun games to play which will teach them new skills at the same time, for example using things like Zoggs Dive Sticks in shallow water at first will get them used to putting their face under water whilst they're retrieving the sticks, then move on to deeper water to encourage them to swim under water but remember children should always be supervised at all times whilst in the pool.

I hope these tips help you to have more fun in the pool with your children, let me know if you have any good tips for me.

My New Change Bag Is Blooming Gorgeous

I've been wanting a Pink Lining change bag since I was pregnant with Riley, it's so exciting when you're pregnant, daydreaming about which change bag and pushchair you'll have. Pink Lining bags have always been top of my wishlist, they're just so pretty and feminine and suit me down to the ground.

I was lucky enough to receive the Blooming Gorgeous Cream Bows On Pink Bag and I absolutely love it! As pink is my favourite colour and I'm obsessed with bows this bag could have been made especially for me.

The bag is not only gorgeous but it's also really practical as it is made from laminated canvas which makes it wipe clean, it has two zips for easy access, there's an adjustable, detachable shoulder strap and it has lots of useful pockets like the large front pocket which is ideal for popping items in that need to be easy to grab like keys and phones, it also has two pockets on the sides with elasticated tops so that you can easily pop things in but they won't fall out.

Inside the bag has a really pretty hot pink, water resistant lining with lots more useful little pockets, there are two thermo insulated bottle pockets which keep bottles warm/cold for up to 4 hours, a slip pocket for phones, two large elasticated pockets for nappies, a pen loop, a detachable mirror and an elasticated key/dummy fob. All of these features make life so much easier when you're on the go with children.

The Blooming Gorgeous bag also comes with a padded change mat and a zip wet bag which are decorated with a super cute yummy mummy cupcake design and are very handy to have.

I've used quite a few different change bags and I have to say the Pink Lining Blooming Gorgeous bag has to be my favourite, it's spacious and practical whilst still being really attractive and easy to carry around, I've had so many compliments on this bag since I started using it, everyone loves it!

If you want to find out more about this bag you can visit the Pink Lining website here and also follow them on Facebook and Twitter. I've included a video from the Pink Lining website below if you'd like to see more about the Blooming Gorgeous Changing Bag.

Already Planning Next Years Holiday

Now that the weather is considerably colder than it has been I've already started thinking about planning our holiday for next year, we'd love to go abroad as we stuck to just going away in the caravan this year which was great fun and we had two lovely holidays but nothing beats a holiday abroad in my book.

I'm not sure where we'd like to go yet but I do know that before we go we need some new luggage as all our cases are really old and totally battered. I've been browsing the internet and I found that you can get some great luggage from Delsey, I especially like the Delsey Karat 4-wheel case, it looks so stylish yet sturdy because lets face it your luggage takes a major bashing when it comes on and off the plane.

I'd also like to get some luggage for the children and I love the Cuties and Pals trolley case and backpack sets, the bumble bee and penguin designs are so adorable!

If you like the look of any of the luggage I've mentioned and want to find out more then visit Direct Luggage online, they have some fab luggage at great prices.

Aldi Baby Event

This Thursday the 19th September my favourite supermarket Aldi is having a Baby Event and I've just been browsing through the items that are going to be available and they're so adorable I just had to show you some of them.

There's these gorgeous muslin cloths, I love the designs especially the owls (I'm obsessed) they're £3.29 for a pack of 3.

How cute are these hooded towels? And they're just £3.49 each.

I'm definitely buying my son one of these Go Glow Lights for his bedroom, as he's potty trained he needs a little night light for when he gets up to use his potty in the night and at £12.99 this is ideal, plus I love the owls!

They have some super cute Cot Quilt Cover Sets for £7.99

And some adorable Fleece Blankets for just £2.99!

Plus they also have lots of offers on nappies, wipes, baby food, toys and much more.

I'll definitely be heading down to Aldi on Thursday, will you?

10 Creative And Cute Ways To Announce Your Pregnancy

I've noticed recently that people are becoming much more creative when it comes to making big announcements like pregnancies and engagements etc. I love the concept of coming up with unique ideas to let the world know your special news and I really wish I'd thought of something like this when we had our babies.

Pop star Rachel Stevens announced her second pregnancy today by posting this photo on her website, I think it's a really cute idea lining up the family's shoes with their year of birth and the tiny baby shoes are adorable.

Here are 9 other super cute ways to announce your pregnancy.

Would you consider doing something like this or have you already done it? Let me know!
