Half Term Crafting With Baker Ross

My kids love crafting so every school holiday I always make sure we're stocked up on all kinds of crafting goodies from Baker Ross to get us through until school starts again.

Riley and Summer had so much fun making the Super Hero Masks and spent ages making pictures with the Mermaid Foam Stickers.

I can't recommend Baker Ross enough for keeping the kids entertained during school holidays, no matter what your kids are into they have something for everyone.

Adventure Time Magazine

Riley is almost 5 and at the moment his favourite tv show is Adventure Time on Cartoon Network and although he can't properly read yet he loves to get the Adventure Time Magazine every month. It's full of fun pictures, activities, stories and there's always a free gift on the front of every issue.

Riley loves to sit with me while I read him the comic strip and he also loves to do the puzzles with me.

I like how there is a section for the readers to send in their drawings as it encourages children to get creative and use their imagination.

There are competitions to enter where you can win some fab Adventure Time goodies and loads of fun little Finn and Jake facts.

Every issue has a different theme and Riley gets so excited when each new issue arrives, it's even helping with his reading as I try and encourage him to read some of the words himself and as it's something that he's interested in it makes learning a bit more fun.

If you would like to subscribe to Adventure Time Magazine then pop over to www.magazine.co.uk, they have great prices on subscriptions to all kinds of reads from kids magazines to home and garden and fashion magazines.

Siblings - May 2015

Another month has gone and my babies continue to grow closer, they play together really nicely now and love nothing more than running around outside, especially now the weather is getting nicer.

I captured some lovely little moments while they were playing together on a visit to Wollaton Park a few days ago and thought they were perfect for a Siblings post, Summer is following Riley around as always, she really wants to be just like her big brother.

Taking Part In Bread & Sandwich Week With ao.com

This week is bread and sandwich week and the lovely people over at ao.com asked us if we would like to join in, they sent us over some goodies to create some fun sandwiches and the kids had lots of fun making their creations, this was Riley's favourite.

Did you know that you can also make some pretty impressive toast art by using a really simple method, your kids will love it!

All you have to do is cut out a design of your choice from foil and lay it on top of your slice of bread and then pop it under the grill, the part of the bread covered by the foil stays white while the rest turns brown, so cool and so easy.

Why not give it a try and make breakfast time more fun, your design can be as simple or complicated as you like, let me know if you give this a try.

Disney On Ice Magical Ice Festival 2015

Last week we took the kids to see Disney On Ice, it was Summer's first time seeing a show and we weren't sure how she would behave but we thought if anything was going to keep her entertained it would be this and as this show is the Magical Ice Festival we knew she would love it as it features all of her favourite Disney characters.

Magical Ice Festival features Disney's number one animated feature film of all time Frozen as well as old favourites like Beauty & The Beast, The Little Mermaid and Tangled.

We started our night out by getting some food and we decided to try out George's Fish & Chip Kitchen in Nottingham, we loved the decor and the food was amazing! The kids loved their chips and chicken goujons which came in a bucket and spade which they got to keep, it was really child friendly and had a great atmosphere, we'll definitely be eating there again soon.

After our dinner we walked over to the Ice Arena and the kids were completely mesmerised by the show, they both sat good as gold for the whole thing and only started to get a bit fidgety right at the end because they were getting tired.

We had such a lovely evening together and we all enjoyed every minute of the show, if your kids love Disney films then I recommend giving Disney on Ice a try, it's a great night out for kids and adults of all ages.

Summer's Transition To A Toddler Bed

Our eldest child Riley has always been a good sleeper, from the day he was born he's always been happy to go to sleep and has never caused us any problems in that area so it was a bit of a shock when we had our second child Summer as she has never really been great when it comes to bedtime.

The last few months with her have been particularly hard as she now refuses to go to sleep in her own bed so we're having to let her stay up with us and then wait until she falls asleep, which some nights can be as late as 10.30pm and then attempt to carry her upstairs, place her into her own bed without her waking up and then pray that stays asleep the whole night.

This leaves me and my husband with no time together in the evenings to sit and watch tv and just talk about our day which is hard and we both miss having that time together at the end of everyday.

I've tried everything I can think of to get her to go to bed, I've stopped her having a nap in the day hoping she will be tired at a more reasonable time but no she's still going at 10pm, I've allowed a nap just incase she was getting over tired but then she's still going at 11pm sometimes, we've tried reading her stories and she loves that but then wants to come downstairs with us afterwards, I'm running out of options.

One thing that has helped recently though was getting her a new toddler bed, she really looks up to her big brother and when she saw that her bed was like Riley's she was really pleased. We chose the StarBright Toddler Bed by HelloHome for Summer because it's such a cute bed and the headboard is a cloud and as you probably already know if you read my blog regularly I'm a little obsessed with clouds.

It was super easy to put together and it's a really sturdy little bed, I love the little bedside table/reading seat on the side as that's really handy for putting her night light on and the removable side guards mean there's no risk of her falling out in the night, Summer moves around a lot in her sleep and as of yet she's not fallen out of this bed once.

Also built into the headboard is a super cute moon shaped night light which softly glows for 15 minutes before switching off, it also projects twinkling stars onto the wall above. We've found that although Summer still won't go to sleep in her new bed, if she falls asleep downstairs and we carry her up and put her in her new bed she sleeps right through all night every night which at least means we're not being woken up in the night to put her in bed with us.

The StarBright Toddler Bed is available to buy from Argos, if you'd like to see more of it here's a little video you can watch.

If you have any tips on how we can get Summer into a better bedtime routine then leave me a comment below, I need all the help I can get.

A Sneaky Peek At Riley's New Bedroom

Over the last couple of weeks me and my husband have been giving my son's bedroom a 'big boy' makeover, it's pretty much finished now but I'm just waiting for a couple more things to arrive so I'm not going to do a full room tour yet but what I will do is give you a sneaky peek at a couple of things we got for his room that I love.

First up is this gorgeous canvas print from Graham & Brown, I'm a little obsessed with clouds at the moment and the colours on this canvas fit perfectly with Riley's new decor. It looks great in his room and I love the positive message on it too. Graham & Brown have a gorgeous range of wall art and some amazing wallpapers too so if you're decorating at the moment you should definitely check them out.

Next up are these amazing dinosaur models from Tobar, Riley loves dinosaurs and although his room is not dinosaur themed I wanted to include them somewhere in his new room. I thought the models would be great as he could have fun building them first and feel like he's contributed something to his bedroom decor. He loved building them especially the T-Rex and has already asked for more, if you have a dinosaur lover in your house I'd recommend getting them some of these.

I'm so pleased with how Riley's room has turned out and I can't wait to share what it looks like totally finished which I'll hopefully be able to do in the next week or so.

Hope you enjoyed the sneak peek, let me know what you think of the bits you've seen so far.

How To Make A Lego Table

We've recently been giving Riley's bedroom a makeover as it hadn't been decorated since before he was born so it still looked very much like a nursery, Riley turns 5 in August so we thought it was time he had a more grown up room, if you follow me on Instagram you will have had a sneaky peek at some of the bits from his new room but it's not totally finished yet so I'll blog about it when it's complete.

As part of Riley's room makeover we were faced with the dilemma of what to do with his wooden train set table, he's never really played with it much, it had been stored in our conservatory so it was a bit sun bleached and we really weren't sure what to do with it.

We decided we were either going to take it to the tip or try and make it work in Riley's new room, I felt like it was too good a table to just throw away so I began thinking about what I could do to it to make it fit in with his room and also turn it into something he would actually use so I turned to good old Pinterest for some inspiration and as usual it didn't let me down.

Riley has just recently really gotten into Lego and whilst searching Pinterest for ideas I came across lots of Lego tables and I knew straight away that this would make a perfect Lego table, it's a good size, it's sturdy and it has raised sides to keep the Lego contained and off the floor plus I know it's something that Riley and his cousins will play with for years to come.

After a bit of research I popped out to get everything I needed for the makeover, here's what I got

I went to B&Q and got some black wood paint as I figured that would be the best colour to paint the table to match his new room and I also picked up some Gorilla Glue to stick the base plates to the table. Then I bought some green Lego base plates from John Lewis and I ended up having to get the blue Lego base plates on Ebay because I couldn't find them in any shops.

We started by sanding down the paint work and then applied 2 coats of black paint, we left it for 24 hours to dry and then it was time to glue down the base plates. I had measured the table and worked out that I needed 6 large green base plates and 2 large blue base plates however I could only get my hands on the smaller blue ones so I actually needed 4 of those, the green ones fit perfectly onto the table without the need to cut them but we needed to cut some off the blue ones to make them fit at the end of the table.

A super duper important tip when gluing the base plates on to the table is to space them properly so that the bricks can fit perfectly across all of the joins, if you push the base plates right up against each other a Lego brick will not fit on the join, you need to leave a tiny gap between each base plate and the easiest way to work out the gap is to pop a Lego brick across the joins before you glue them down.

When it came to cutting the blue base plates I discovered you can actually cut them with scissors which made life easier, after all of the plates were glued in place we put some heavy books on top of them to make sure they stuck down well and left it for 24 hours.

And here's the finished table, I'm really pleased with it and Riley was over the moon, he couldn't wait to play with it.

Macho Loves His Pawsomebox

Macho was very excited a few days ago when the postman delivered something that was actually for him instead of for me, the Pawsomebox is a monthly subscription box for dogs filled with treats, toys, accessories and hygiene products.

Included in our box this month was

A Keep Calm And Have A Bite food bowl
Fresh Breath Treats
Chicken & Cheese Stripes
Ear Cleanser
Lamb Plush Toy
Rope Tug Toy

The ear cleanser is great because Macho gets quite dirty ears that can sometimes lead to ear infections so we'll definitely be using that, the fresh breath treats will be handy because Macho has bad teeth which results in bad breath, these will help his breath and clean his teeth at the same time. He'll love the chicken and cheese stripes as a tasty treat now and again and I'm sure the toys will get played with.

Overall I'm really pleased with everything in the box and I'm sure Macho is too. You can have a free trial of the Pawsomebox to try it out, if this something you're interested in then pop over to the website.

If you're a cat owner then don't worry because they also do a Purrfectbox which is the same principle except it's for cats.
