Christmas With HomeSense

I love buying Christmas decorations, every year as soon as I see items popping up in shops I start picking up bits and bobs even though we probably have far too many decorations already. My favourite shop to buy Christmas decorations at the moment by far is HomeSense, if you're not familiar with them they're very simialar to TK Maxx except they only sell homeware.

They have an amazing range of Christmas items available this year and I wanted to share a couple of things that I picked up.

I really wanted a wreath for our front door and HomeSense have a huge selection of beautiful wreaths in all kinds of different colours and designs, I was really spoilt for choice but I ended up choosing this stunning green and white wreath with pine cones as it fits with our colour scheme and I'm so pleased with how pretty it looks.

The next item I picked up was this large wooden sign which looks like a slice from a tree which has been painted with blackboard paint, it's so cute and rustic I really love it! There are hooks on the back so you can hang it up but I think I'm just going to pop it on top of my butchers block in my kitchen and decorate around it as it's such a lovely feature.

One of the things I love about HomeSense is the uniqueness of its items, you can find all kinds of amazing things that you just don't find in any other shops and they only have a few of each item so it's not like there are hundreds and everyone has got the same as you.

Another great reason to shop at HomeSense this Christmas is their Hang A Bauble campaign, they've teamed up with Action For Children and you can do your bit for charity by purchasing a bauble for £1 and writing a festive message or your happiest childhood memory on it and hanging it on the special Christmas tree in store. All proceeds will go to Action For Children and it's local services.

I think we're going to get our decorations up this weekend because our tree is being delivered and I'm so excited, when do your Christmas decorations go up?

Childhood Memories From The 90's

A few days ago my Mum found some old photos of me as a child and it got me thinking about all of the things I loved when I was younger, if you were a child in the 90's then some of this stuff might bring back a few memories for you too.

Obviously as a child sweets were a big part of my life, especially retro sweets like rhubarb and custards, I used to go to our little local shop and buy them by the quarter as a treat and they were so good. Unfortunately the shop closed a long time ago and sweets like that are hard to hold of now but you can get them and a great selection of other sweets from AquarterOf.

The Barbie Dream House was one of my favourite toys as a child, I had loads of Barbie dolls and several houses but the Dream House was always my favourite. Me and my sister would play for hours with them, dressing them up in different outfits and taking them on little adventures around the house, we even had a camper van which was so cool and bright pink!

A stand out TV show for me as a kid was Saved By The Bell, I absolutely loved it, I so wanted to be Kelly Kapowski because she was gorgeous and I loved Zack and his huge mobile phone.  Mr Belding was hilarious and I loved how Screech always pined after Lisa, it was such a great show, if you were a 90's child then you definitely watched it.

Lastly is the Nintendo Game Boy which was surgically attached to my hands for most of the early 90's. I loved Tetris and Super Mario Brothers and could sit for hours playing on it until the batteries ran out.

Do any of these items take you back to your childhood?

Ice Skating & Santa At Webbs Garden Centre

I love this time of the year because it means that we can start to do some fun Christmas activities with the kids which make very special memories. Something we love to do each year is ice skating and visiting Santa so that the kids can tell him what they would like for Christmas and we decided to go back to one of the best places I've ever been to for this which is Webbs Garden Centre in Wychbold.

They have a brilliant outdoor Christmas ice rink which you can use even if it's raining because it has a roof to keep it nice and dry. There are special skates for the kids to make skating a little easier for them and they have some really good skating aids suitable for children of all ages.

Summer absolutely loved it and would have stayed on the ice for hours, she was quite upset when we finished but she cheered up as soon as we told her we were going to see Santa.

Before we went to see Santa we stopped off in the cafe for a hot drink and a muffin which were absolutely delicious, I definitely recommend you give them a try if you're visiting. The staff were really friendly and accommodating and it had a lovely atmosphere with all of the pretty Christmas decorations.

Next it was time to see Santa in his Christmas Grotto, when you first walk in you're greeted by an elf who points you in the right direction, you walk through a beautiful winter wonderland filled with amazing decorations until you reach a door where you're greeted by another elf who shows you in to Santa himself.

Santa was lovely and really made an effort to make Summer feel at ease as she was a little unsure at first and the elf taking the photos was very patient, taking quite a few shots until she got one of Summer smiling. We loved the photo so much we even got a snow globe with the photo in which has got pride of place in Summer's bedroom.

After spending a few minutes with Santa you then enter his enormous toy warehouse where you can choose any toy you like, there were lots to choose from and Summer was a little spoilt for chice but she decided on a princess castle which included a prince, princess and horse and carriage which she was super excited to play with.

Before we left Webbs we had a look around all of their Christmas decorations and picked up a few pieces for our garden which we're super excited about putting out come December. They have hundreds of gorgeous decorations for sale as well as lots of lovely home and garden items, all in all it makes for a lovely day out for all the family.

For more information visit the Webbs website, you can also find them on Twitter and Facebook.

Aldi Specialbuy Soup Maker Review

You may have seen my post a couple of weeks ago which included a Soup Maker available in the Aldi Specialbuys for just £49.99, well Aldi were kind enough to send me one to try out and today I made a delicious Butternut Squash and Sweet Potato soup in it using a recipe from the booklet which comes with it, here's how I got on.

The Soup Maker itself is quite heavy and feels very good quality, nothing like some of the cheap, flimsy items I've tried before. The base has little suckers on so that it sticks to the worktop and doesn't move around when blending which is a really good feature and the controls are all nice and simple and easy to figure out and use.

There's a power button, up and down time arrows to adjust cooking times, a heating and cooking button which heats ingredients to boiling point, a heating and blending button which can be performed at the same time and a heating and keeping warm button which simmers and keeps dishes hot.

There is also a blending dial which allows you to choose if you're blending liquid or solid ingredients or if you want to pulse which would be used if you were crushing ice, plus there's a mix control button which will mix up your soup for you.

The soup itself was really easy to make, all I did was chop up the ingredients, pop them in the Soup Maker along with some stock and then heat and blend until the ingredients were cooked and blended to a smooth consistency.

The soup was absolutely delicious, I couldn't believe how quick and easy it was to make such a tasty and healthy dish. We've used the Soup Maker quite a few times now and have found it a godsend when it comes to using up any vegetables or leftover meats, we just pop them in and make a yummy soup for the next day.

As I mentioned before the Soup Maker can also be used for other things such as crushing ice and as a blender which really comes in handy. The booklet that comes with it contains recipes for soups as well as smoothies.

Although the Specialbuys event was a couple of weeks ago there may be some of the Soup Makers still available to buy in Aldi stores, there are definitely some left in my local store so if you're interested in buying one go and take a look.

I couldn't live without mine now, have you tried a Soup Maker?

What Makes My Perfect Cosy Night In

There's nothing I like better especially in winter than to spend a warm, cosy night in snuggled up in front of the fire with my favourite tv show on and a hot chocolate in my hand so I thought I'd tell you what items make up my perfect cosy night in.

If it's a cosy atmosphere you're after then nothing achieves this better than candles, my favourite are the Yankee Candles and I just bought Winter Glow which smells amazing and gives a lovely subtle glow to the room when it's lit.

For the ultimate cosy night in you have to have a fire blazing away in a wood burning stove, we only recently got one and we absolutely love it, any excuse to light the fire and we're there but we did find that lighting a good fire and keeping it burning at a high temperature isn't as easy as you think but with a bit of practice and know how you soon get the hang of it.

Along with the candle light and the light from the fire I also like to have my fairy lights on too as they only add to the lovely, cosy atmosphere and who doesn't like fairy lights? They're so pretty!

If I'm settling down to watch a good film or my favourite TV show then it's got to be on a good, high quality television, we recently purchased a new Panasonic 4K TV and the difference compared to our old TV is unbelievable. It's amazing the difference it makes when you want to get the full experience whilst watching a film the picture quality is so clear and it all adds to my perfect cosy night in.

Lastly even with the fire going I still like to snuggle up with some cosy throws, especially my fur throw which is super soft and keeps me nice and toasty all evening until it's time for bed.

What makes your cosy night in perfect?

Baking Fun With

A few weeks ago we were sent some amazing baking goodies from the electrical appliance company to celebrate the popularity of baking at the moment and they wanted to see what creations we could come up with so we had a little half term baking session and made some pretty good (in my opinion) Halloween biscuits.

We left the biscuits plain because my strange children don't like icing but I still think they turned out well and they tasted delicious.

Baking with the kids is an activity that they always love to do and it keeps them occupied for ages, I also try and make it a little educational by using the weighing scales to help them learn their numbers or asking Riley to make words with the pastry to help his spelling.

If you're at a loose end and don't know what to do with the kids then try a little baking session, it's fun for everyone and there are yummy treats to eat afterwards.

Getting Ready For Christmas

Now that we're in to November and Halloween has been and gone I'm officially in Christmas mode and I've been getting myself organised lately to make sure everything will be ready for the big day which by the way is only 50 days away!

So first things first the most important thing to get organised for Christmas is the tree and this year same as last year we're going for a real one from Pines and Needles, our tree last year was the most beautiful tree I've ever seen and the service from Pines and Needles was brilliant. I've put my order in and our tree will be arriving just in time for the beginning of December so that we can enjoy a full month of it.

As a special treat for my readers Pines and Needles have given me a code which if used online entitles you to free Holly, Mistletoe, Mini Tree and 10" Decorated Wreath, just enter BAGS15 at the checkout.

Yesterday I re-stocked my Christmas candle collection in Home Bargains, they had these three beauties available to buy for just 49p each, can you believe it?

I also ordered a few bits from Matalan including this gorgeous door mat and this mason jar mug gift set perfect for making hot chocolates on chilly winter nights.

I always like to get the kids some Christmas pjs to pop in their Christmas Eve basket so I got Summer this super cute Patterned Trees PJ Set from Hatley which have loads of gorgeous nightwear and clothing for kids and adults. I must say I'm tempted to get the matching pjs for myself too because they're so pretty.

I've even done a bit of Christmas shopping and picked up a couple of gifts for my friends baby daughter, I thought the Peppa Pig Activity Toy was so cute and the perfect Christmas gift for a baby as it's super soft but it also plays music, oinks and has different textures making it a sensory toy too.

The whole range of Peppa Pig baby toys is lovely and it's not just for girls as there is a George Pig too, all the toys are available to buy from Mothercare, Boots, Tesco and Amazon.

We're Friends Of Sylvanian Families

We were recently asked to become Friends of Sylvanian Families which was super exciting to me as I used to play with them as a child and Summer is just getting to the age where she would love to play with them.

Just incase you have no idea what Sylvanian Families are here's a little about them,

First created in 1985, Sylvanian Families is a unique and adorable range of distinctive animal characters that live, work and play in the idyllic land of Sylvania.
Sylvanian Families originated in Japan and made the journey to the UK in 1987. It became an iconic toy of the ‘80s and received the UK Toy of the Year award for three years running. Sold in over 50 countries, Sylvanian Families is a global brand, with themed restaurants and a dedicated theme park in Japan. To date, more than 100 million Sylvanian Families figures have been sold worldwide.
Sylvanian Families are more than just toys; these anthropomorphic creatures have their own names, birthdays and even personalities. They live in stylish houses, surrounded by luscious greenery, woodland, a meadow and a river – making up the natural world of Sylvania.
Sylvanian Families is turning 30 years young this year, so make sure to celebrate its birthday and keep an eye open for Sylvanian events by checking out the website here.

So what does it mean to be a Friend of Sylvanian Families?
Well it means that we got sent this adorable goodie bag full of Sylvanian Families treats like magazines, stickers, playing cards and colouring sheets plus a super cute little outfit for one of the figures.

It also means that we'll be the first to hear about exciting product launches and some Sylvanian Families items to review. So if you love Sylvanian Families then keep your eyes peeled for more about them coming soon.
