We have a lovely little tradition at Christmas which we started last year for the kids, it's called The Elf On The Shelf® and it involves adopting a scout elf who watches your children in the lead up to Christmas to make sure they are behaving themselves and every night he reports back to Santa so that he knows whether to put you on the nice list or the naughty list.
When you adopt your scout elf you also get a lovely book which you can read to your children telling the story of the tradition so that they understand why the scout elf is here.
We have two scout elves called Buddy and Noelle and they arrived recently with mini Christmas trees for the children to decorate which they absolutely loved. The kids know not to touch the elves as they will lose their magic if anyone touches them and that means no more surprises every morning.
I think the tradition just makes Christmas all that much more magical for the children and is something that they can carry through to when they have children of their own.
